OLED vs QLED

  1. Display Technology: OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode, while QLED stands for Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode. OLED displays use organic compounds that emit light when an electric current is applied, while QLED displays use quantum dots that produce different colors of light depending on their size.

  2. Black Levels: OLED displays are known for their excellent black levels because each pixel can be turned off individually. This means that in dark scenes, the pixels that need to be black are completely off, resulting in a true black. QLED displays, on the other hand, use an LED backlight that is always on, which can result in less accurate black levels.

  3. Contrast Ratio: Because of their excellent black levels, OLED displays generally have a higher contrast ratio than QLED displays. This means that the difference between the brightest and darkest parts of an image is more pronounced on an OLED display.

  4. Color Accuracy: QLED displays are known for their excellent color accuracy, thanks to their use of quantum dots. They can produce a wider range of colors than OLED displays, and can also maintain their color accuracy at higher brightness levels.

  5. Viewing Angles: OLED displays have better viewing angles than QLED displays. This means that you can still see the picture clearly even if you're not sitting directly in front of the screen.

  6. Burn-In: OLED displays are susceptible to burn-in, which occurs when a static image is displayed on the screen for an extended period of time, causing the pixels to degrade unevenly. QLED displays are less susceptible to burn-in.

  7. Price: OLED displays tend to be more expensive than QLED displays, due to the cost of manufacturing the organic compounds used in the display.

Overall, OLED displays are known for their excellent black levels and contrast ratio, while QLED displays are known for their color accuracy and brightness. Both technologies have their strengths and weaknesses, and which one is better for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences.
